Appleton Coated, Combined Locks, Wis., USA, is expanding its technical and specialty papers business with the launch of Appleton Coated Pharma Insert Opaque. This uncoated paper is designed and manufactured specifically for high-speed production of pharmaceutical industry insert and onsert projects.

"As a non-integrated mill targeting customer-focused paper solutions, we knew this was right in our wheelhouse," said John Mazuroski, Appleton Coated’s business development manager for technical and specialty products. "We have a long history of making lightweight base stocks for specialty applications. For this project, our specially designed fiber-refining technology, and the ability to purchase and blend end-use-specific fibers came together. This is a robust, groundwood-free product. It prints very well and offers superior fold- and burst-strength, while delivering excellent runnability on press and in bindery."

Appleton Coated Pharma Insert Opaque is available in a 27-lb. basis weight and offered in rolls and sheets. Acid-free, enhanced elemental chlorine-free (EECF) and pH neutral, it may be ordered with post-consumer recovered fiber (PCRF), as FSC® certified, SFI® certified, and with Green-e®-certified Green Power. For all grades that carry the Green Power designation, 100% of the electricity used to manufacture these products is matched with renewable energy credits (RECs) from Green-e certified energy sources, primarily wind.
