UPM to Sell PM 4 at Ettringen for Conversion to Board

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

UPM, Helsinki, Finland, will sell PM 4 at its Ettringen in Germany to Aviretta GmbH ogf Germany. Aviretta will convert PM 4 at Ettringen into a board machine. The planned production capacity would be approximately 210,000 metric tons of board annually. PM 4 would remain in Ettringen and UPM Ettringen will render certain support services to Aviretta. UPM will not be a shareholder in this company.

In April 2013, UPM announced the permanent closure of the PM 4 at the Ettringen mill, noting that challenges in the European economy have significantly impacted the consumption of graphic papers.

"We are pleased about the plans of Aviretta to convert paper machine No. 4 into a board machine. This setup would also lead to synergies for both contract parties. A thorough examination in the coming weeks will show whether the planned project could be realized in this form," Winfried Schaur, GM of UPM Schongau and UPM Ettringen, said.
