Smurfit Kappa Kraftliner to Rebuild Recausticizing Plant at Lövholmen, Sweden

Smurfit Kappa Kraftliner has ordered from Metso, Finland, two lime mud filters and a recausticizing plant rebuild for its mill in Lövholmen, Sweden. Startup is planned for June 2014. The value of the order was not disclosed.

"The old filters from 1972 were totally worn out and had to be replaced. Doing this forced replacement also opened up the possibility to design the filters and the conveyor system for a future capacity and a flexible system with a high availability on lime production. The expected outcome of the project is high, with stable availability and reduced operation cost," says Bo Johansson, manager of technology at Smurfit Kappa Kraftliner.

The scope of supply includes two lime mud filters with auxiliary equipment and also a conveyor system that facilitates distribution of lime to respective lime kiln and lime storage. The two lime mud filters will replace three existing filters.

Smurfit Kappa in Sweden covers the whole chain from paper production to design and selling of packaging in solid and corrugated board. It has 1,400 employees in its production units and sales offices in Sweden. Worldwide, the company has some 41,000 employees in 32 countries with a turnover of EUR 7.3 billion.
