Appleton Coated, Combined Locks, Wis., USA, has added Green-e® certified Green Power as an option to its line of Coated One Side (C1S) papers. Produced at the company’s Combined Locks mill, the new addition further emphasizes Appleton Coated’s "commitment to the category" and its "dedication to sustainable paper options."

"This move demonstrates our ongoing efforts and support of this important segment of the paper and graphic arts industry," said Ann Whalen, Appleton Coated’s SVP of marketing and customer service. The Appleton Coated C1S line includes rolls and sheets in basis weights from 55 lb to100 lb text, with quick-turn and supersize sheet programs.

"Our C1S Litho customers increasingly express the same need for sustainable paper options as the commercial print and publishing segments," Whalen continues. "This is one more step in making it easy to choose the environmentally-responsible alternative."

In addition to Green Power, Appleton Coated C1S is available as FSC certified (FSC C007796), SFI certified, and with post-consumer recovered fiber. For all grades that carry the Green Power designation, 100% of the electricity used to manufacture these products is matched with renewable energy credits (RECs) from Green-e certified energy sources, primarily wind.

The first North American coated paper mill to be FSC certified, Appleton Coated has a strong environmental management system in place as evidenced by its ISO 14001 certification. Appleton Coated is an EPA Green Power Partner and requires that all of its out-bound carriers are EPA Smart-Way certified. It has been recognized by the Green Master's Program of the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council as one of their Green Masters Award Companies. In addition, it is one of six Green Tier II companies recognized by the Wisconsin DNR as having exceptional environmental management systems in place.
