Nippon Paper Industries Co., Japan, announced that as of June 27 it will establish its Energy Business Division and set up its Energy Business Department within the new division in an organizational reform of the company. Nippon notes that it has been boosting development of businesses other than paper, and above all, has been promoting expansion of its energy business in which it can leverage its strengths.

The company says it has decided to newly introduce Japan's first biomass power generation project utilizing 100% unused woody materials at Yatsushiro mill (Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture), and Shikoku's largest mega-solar project in Komatsushima-shi, Tokushima (on land owned by Nippon Paper Industries) in fiscal year 2014.

The Energy Business Department, previously under the Technical & Engineering Division, will be expanded significantly by creating an independent division. With this more agile organizational structure, Nippon Paper Industries emphasizes that it will quickly and assuredly seize business opportunities and strengthen its efforts for further expansion of its energy business.
