Gorham Paper and Tissue, Gorham, N.H., USA, reports that it has fully commercialized a portfolio of barrier packaging papers. The offering is used in food service and quick service restaurant (QSR) applications with stringent functionality requirements including oil and grease resistance, wet strength, printability, and surface smoothness for foil or film laminations and wax or poly coatings.

"Our machines are built for niche specialty end uses like barrier packaging papers. For the past six months our product development team has been collaborating with leading packaging converters and end-users to refine product formulations, increase run frequencies, and optimize our machine efficiency," said Brian McAlary, VP of sales and marketing. "With changing market dynamics, we see tremendous opportunity for us to become a core suppler to this technically demanding market."

Engineered to provide the technical functionality and aesthetic properties needed for the retail environment, the Gorham line of specialty packaging papers are available in a basis weight range from 18 lb. to 140 lb. and with fiber options including bleached, unbleached (natural), or colored. Targeted food service and QSR applications include wraps, pouches, bags, liners, boxes, and packets.

Product Manager Wayne Nablo added that "innovation and product development are central to our company. Our customers are finding our speed to market, the quality of our products, and our willingness to collaborate on custom-engineered papers refreshing. We have some exciting initiatives in our product development pipeline to share with the market over the next few months. Our manufacturing flexibility leads the market."

Outside of the food service and QSR markets, Gorham makes a variety of highly-engineered application-based specialty papers, including target paper, flame retardant, stick paper, and numerous base papers for corrugating, laminating, and waxing. All papers are available with fiber certification to SFI or FSC standards. Non-food based papers are available with up to 100% post-consumer content.
