Kruger Laid-Off Corner Brook Workers Return to Work

Print Print this article | Send to Colleague

Kruger (Montreal, Canada) employees laid off over the holidays last month in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada, returned to work this week. The 110 employees were laid off when one of the mill's two neewsprintg machines was shut down on December 23. The 15-day shutdown reduced the mill's newsprint output by 4,000 metric tons.

Most unionized workers voted last year to accept a concessionary deal with Kruger, which has been trying to keep the struggling mill afloat. The 110 workers represent approximately a third of the mill's total employees
