Omya, APRIL Form JV for GCC Production in Jiangmen

Omya, Oftringen, Switzerland, and Asia Pacific Resource International (APRIL), China, have formed a joint venture to supply all GCC (ground calcium carbonate) requirements for APRIL's new uncoated woodfree paper machine in Jiangmen, Guangdong, China. Under the new partnership, named AP-OMYA Minerals (Jiangmen) Co., Omya and APRIL have erected a new facility for the production of GCC in a location adjacent to APRIL's new paper machine at the Jiangmen mill.
The capacity of the GCC facility is 140,000 dry metric tpy, all of which is expected to be consumed by APRIL. The Jiangmen mill's new paper machine, producing 450,000 metric tpy of uncoated wood free paper grades, started operation this past July.
