MWV's Printkote Approved for Chocolate, Confectionery Packaging

MeadWestvaco Corp., Richmond, Va., USA, received Robinson EN 1230-2 sensory analysis approval for its Printkote® paperboard for chocolate and confectionary packaging. This analysis, required for all confectionery packaging and paperboard, tests the paperboard's ability to maintain product quality without a trace of taint or odor from the packaging.

MWN notes that Printkote's approval on the Robinson test confirms its ability to maintain product integrity and value, and provides brand owners with confidence in packaging solutions for their luxury confectionery products.

MWV explains that Printkote meets the high standards of packaging seen in the European chocolate and confectionery market and is safe for direct food contact. Without the addition of optical brighteners, a light creamy warm shade supports color intensity. Therefore, this premium paperboard enables high quality, eye-catching graphics to stand out, MWV points out. The superior "dead fold" performance of Printkote, it adds, results in a squarer and tighter package, "helping to elevate brands in the minds of consumers."

In addition to Printkote, earlier this year MWV's Crescendo® paperboard received its Robinson certification for chocolate and confectionery packaging.
