Stora Enso Specialty Papers, Uetersen, Germany, has launched MediaLiner, a bright white graphic liner for corrugated packaging, displays, and other laminates. This new product is aimed at brand owners seeking "eye-catching" corrugated packaging and displays to boost sales at the point of sale (POS). Stora Enso notes that buying decisions are usually made spontaneously at the POS. Thus the trend in corrugated packaging is changing. Traditional brown boxes are gradually being replaced by multi-functional packaging designed to actively support sales.

Contemporary packaging has to attract customer's attention at the POS, Stora Enso emphasizes. For corrugated packaging, this can be achieved through high-quality graphics, unique surface effects, and tactile appeal of the liner. MediaLiner was especially developed to address these requirements and gives brand owners a host of exciting new ways to create high-impact product appearance, the company says.

MediaLiner is produced at the Stora Enso mill in Uetersen from virgin fiber and is therefore white throughout. The resultant brightness is reinforced by a double silk coated surface. "This smooth, bright white surface permits a refreshing, clear color reproduction in printing, allowing the use of brilliant, high-resolution graphics, no matter what the basis weight and type of corrugated board or laminated material," the company points out.

The new graphic liner, available in basis weights of 120, 135, 160, 190, and 220 gsm, also features enhanced converting performance and glue absorption characteristics. Suitable for both offset and flexography, it is ideal for pre-print and direct printing using either sheets or reels, Stora Enso says.
