Sappi to Supply More Dissolving Pulp to Lenzing

Lenzing AG, Austria, a global producer of cellulose fibers, reports that it has intensified its longstanding cooperation with Sappi of South Africa. Both companies have signed a multi-year pulp supply contract on similar terms as their existing supply contract, which is based on pricing for paper pulps. The agreement is related to Sappi's construction of new chemical pulp capacity (dissolving pulp).

Sappi currently has an annual dissolving pulp capacity of 800,000 metric tons, which is being expanded to 1.3 million metric tons, making it the world's largest producer of dissolving pulp, used mainly for the production of cellulose fibers. The raw material for Sappi's dissolving pulp is primarily certified plantation eucalyptus.

For several decades, Lenzing has been purchasing dissolving pulp for its non-fiber-integrated manufacturing facilities in Indonesia, China, Europe, and the U.S., including from the Sappi Group.
