A fire on June 12 devastated the Khanna Paper Mills in India, on the Amritsar bypass. According to an article in the Indian English-language daily newspaper Hindustan Times, the fire broke out around 2 p.m. from the waste stock yard of the mill. Some 60,000 – 70,000 metric tons of wastepaper lying in the mill reportedly caught fire and spread quickly. The fire was so intense that some 50 firemen were called in, along with army personnel. Specific damages have not yet been reported by the mill.

Khanna Paper Mills supplies newsprint to several major newspapers in the region, and recently began exporting newsprint to Pakistan.
