MWV Sponsors Million Hearts with Free Employee Blood Pressure Checks

MeadWestvaco Corp. (MWV), Richmond, Va., USA, has begun offering free blood pressure checks to all its Richmond headquarters-based employees during the month of May as part of the "Million Hearts VA" campaign. MWV is the first company in the Commonwealth to support the campaign sponsored by State Health Commissioner Karen Remley, MD.
The commissioner recently pledged Virginia's support for the national Million Hearts campaign by agreeing to conduct one million blood pressure checks during the month of May. The national initiative, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, established a goal of preventing one million heart attacks and strokes in the U.S. over the next five years.
As part of Million Hearts, MWV will offer free blood pressure checks to its Richmond headquarters-based employees during the month of May. The company will also conduct an educational employee event at the end of the month to celebrate both the blood pressure checks and the importance of active employee participation in preventative healthcare, including seeking appropriate medical care, keeping blood pressure under control, and adhering to prescribed medication as directed.
