Fortress Paper, Thurso, Que., Canada, reports that parties to the purchase agreement for the previously announced acquisition of the non-operating pulp mill located at Lebel-sur-Quevillon, Que., from Domtar Inc. (Montreal, Que.) have agreed to an extension to the closing date.

Fortress says that it continues to work diligently with the other parties to satisfy all the conditions precedent to closing, and the transaction is expected to be completed in the normal course as soon as practicable.

Fortress commenced production of disolving pulp in December 2011. Fortress Global Cellulose, located in Lebel-sur-Quevillon, is a recently announced addition to Fortress Paper's Specialty Cellulose division. The company intends to convert the former Domtar mill from NBSK (northern bleached softwood kraft) pulp to dissolving pulp production after the closing.
