UPM Introduces New Papers for Greasy, Dry Food Wrapping

Print Print this article | Send to Colleague

UPM, Helsinki, Finland, has launched a new ecological UPM SwanBarrier paper range for dry and greasy food wrappings. Barrier properties of SwanBarrier, such as water vapor barrier and medium grease resistance, have been achieved without any PE-coating or fluorochemicals, the company reports. The papers are thus fully recyclable and biodegradable.

UPM SwanBarrier papers are developed for dry and greasy foodstuffs, e.g., for bread bags, biscuits, and greasy food wrappers. Because of the water vapor barrier, SwanBarrier light keeps bread fresh for at least two to three days. Unlike plastic, the paper ‘breathes" and thus prevents bread from becoming soggy. SwanBarrier with medium level greaseproof keeps greasy food wrapping tidy and the grease does not leak through.

UPM SwanBarrier light is available in 45 and 55 gsm and UPM SwanBarrier is available in 60 and 65 gsm. Both are suitable for flexo printing. The papers are approved for direct contact with dry food and have BfR a food certificate and an FDA Food Certificate. The papers are also available with FSC Chain-of-custody or PEFC Chain-of-custody certification.
