Rottneros to Close up Bleach Plant Loops at Vallvik

Rottneros AB, Stockholm, Sweden, reports that it will close bleach plant water loops at its Vallvik Mill in Sweden, at a cost of SEK 90 million. The project is the final part of a series of measures previously announced. Closure of the bleach plant will significantly reduce water usage, the company notes, and will also allow the biological external water purification plant currently being built to be kept significantly smaller. The mill additionally will see a slight reduction in the cost of power and chemicals.

The investments will help the Vallvik Mill meet extended requirements for water purification that will apply beginning in 2012. These investments will lead to a 20% increase in capacity at the factory, from 200,000 to 240,000 metric tpy of sulfate pulp. The current production permit is limited to 220,000 metric tpy and a request for a temporary extended permit for 242,000 metric tpy has already been submitted to the relevant environmental authorities.
