Stora Enso Investing in Pellet Production

As part of its continuing expansion ito solid biofuels, Stora Enso, Finland reports that it is investing EUR 10 million to start pellet production at its Imavere Sawmill in Estonia. This investment is expected to enhance the Imavere sawmill's long-term competitiveness. The project will begin in the fourth quarter of this year and is to be completed in the fourth quarter of next year.

Stora Enso wants to become the leading integrated supplier of pellets in Northern Europe. With this investment, the company is targeting industrial and residential customers through existing distribution channels.

The plant's annual capacity will be 100,000 metric tons of pellets. Production of the pellets will be fully self-sufficient in raw material and will use by-products from the sawmill. Stora Enso Wood Products already produces pellets at four sites in Sweden and Russia with a total annual capacity of 310,000 metric tons.
