NewPage, Spicers Paper Form New Partnership

NewPage Corp., Miamisburg, Ohio, USA, this past week agreed to supply Spicers Paper, Santa Fe Springs, Calif., with a private label brand of coated papers known as Discovery, effective immediately. Discovery is a long-standing Spicers Paper brand that is the foundation of the company's Advantage Grade family of coated paper products. Discovery, supplied by NewPage, provides customers a domestically-produced product that is widely available and manufactured across an efficient and flexible papermaking infrastructure.

Spicers is a diversified, full-service distribution company with operations extending from the west coast to the upper midwestern regions of the U.S. It is the only distribution company in the U.S. with an extensive investment in custom sheeting Centers of Excellence that now total 12 sheeters across seven U.S. locations. The company is part of PaperlinX, Australia, its PaperlinX North America operations, which is made up of Spicers Paper and Kelly Paper in the U.S. and Spicers Canada and Coast Paper in Canada.

In the U.S., NewPage owns paper mills in Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, and also operates a mill in Nova Scotia, Canada. These mills have a total annual production capacity of approximately 4.4 million tons of paper, including 3.2 million tons of coated paper, 1.0 million tons of uncoated paper, and 200,000 tons of specialty paper.
