Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l., Brussels, Belgium, this week announced that it will raise prices for all of its uncoated recycled paperboard grades in European markets by EUR 50, or £40, per metric ton on all shipments effective March 8. "The cost of recovered paper has doubled over the past three quarters, which is a reflection of increased fiber demand around the globe," said Eddie Smith, VP, Sonoco-Alcore Europe. "Harsher than normal winter weather has also impacted the supply of recovered paper in Europe, and mills in all of the recycled paperboard markets are running full with low levels of finished stock. Because of the rapid rise in recovered paper prices, we must begin to recoup our costs in our coreboard, partition board, and other uncoated recycled products," Smith added. Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l. is wholly owned by Sonoco, Hartsville, S.C., USA, and operates 30 tube and core plants and six paper mills on the European continent and in the U.K.
