Print Print this article | Send to Colleague

Stora Enso, Helsinki, Finland, is upgrading controls on No. 3 boiler at its Hyltebruk, Sweden, mill. The 100 MW gas/oil boiler produces steam mainly for the paper mill but also for district heating during peak loads. The existing control logic will be replaced by new logic based on ÅF's Balance+ control concept. Developed by ÅF-Engineering in Finland, the concept includes advanced adaptive control solutions that provide higher efficiency, longer boiler life cycle, and lower emissions than conventional control solutions. Project goals are maximal stability of the boiler and highest level of automation. ÅF is responsible for design, DCS utilization, and commissioning of the new concept.
