PMPI Mentor Me
Students will benefit from learning outside the classroom and receiving guidance in the meetings industry. Industry professionals will benefit from having a direct influence on the student’s career growth and success in the program.

What is expected of a Mentee?
A Mentee has to be committed to making the experience successful and valuable. Mentees must take the initiative to attend PMPI events and communicate regularly with their mentor. Mentees should also identify their goals and objectives for their participation in the program.

What is expected of a Mentor?
A Mentor must be passionate about the student’s success. A mentor commits to holding four, one-on-one meetings with their mentee throughout the year. Some examples of one-on-one meetings can be "Take Your Mentee to Work Day" or invite them out to a PMPI Educational Experience or event. Each mentor will receive monthly modules to help guide the mentoring process. The mentor can utilize these resources or develop his/her own process. Mentoring can focus on a variety of topics including: personal and professional development, career advice, ethics and leadership, etc.

Michele was such a huge hit at MACE that we’re bringing her back to PMPI to help us do our jobs more effectively. Analyzing your stakeholders is critical to the success of every project or assignment in every organization. By engaging the right people in the right way, you can make a big difference to your project’s success – and to your career. As your career develops, the projects you manage and actions you take will affect more and more people – the more likely your actions will impact those who have power and influence over your projects or career. These stakeholders could be strong supporters of your work – or they could block it. Understanding stakeholder management is a critical business skill that successful people use to win support from others.

Community service projects will be completed by our participants at a multitude of sites, concurrently, creating the most impact for our neighbors. We will give back to schools, effect food pantries, help military and more.

HINT: We will be partnering with other major industry players...

You already know the theme this year is to give back without giving money, and our volunteer efforts have been generating increased interest. Chicago has a service day that you may have even heard of, that the industry can’t stop talking about. As the nation’s capital, it’s time to boast our red, white and blue with an event of our own.

HINT: We will have a kick-off rally and a closing celebration.

If you are interesting in joining the Community Outreach Committee in shaping this inaugural event, please contact Community Outreach Chair, Tabatha Gilmore at Tabatha.Gilmore@destinationdc.com.
