Upcoming Events

On April 19 we are gathering at the luxurious Hotel Monaco to enjoy a very engaging session titled "The Business of Social and the Social of Business'".

Whether you want to be considered a strategic contributor to your organization or enhance your resume value in the job market, it’s time to grow your awareness and involvement in social media networks. Regardless of where the official social responsibility lies, you DO have responsibility for member experience and can benefit greatly by using social to enhance your relationships.

Hear Michelle Lapierre’s story about how social media channels have changed the business landscape forever. She’ll review current events, rehash the arguments for why we can’t ignore social any longer, and lay out practical skill-sharpening steps you must take in order to thrive in our business-social / social-business world. During her lifelong career in hospitality sales and marketing, Michelle has held myriad professional positions from on-property operations to corporate strategic development. In her current position with Marriott Rewards & Ritz-Carlton Rewards, Michelle oversees the program's social media presence, as well as being a member of Marriott's prestigious Social Media Center of Excellence, whose charter is to set the enterprise-wide investment strategies for the burgeoning social media community worldwide.

As a member of MPI’s CMM faculty, Michelle teaches the Strategic Marketing course, preparing meeting professionals to position their meetings and events within the organizations strategic framework. Click here to see the event summary and register for the April event.

Are you thinking about acquiring an industry designation and would like to speak with a fellow member who has gone through the process? Whether a CMP, CMM, CSEP or other we have member volunteers willing to speak with you to share their personal experience and help you learn which designation is the best fit for your career path.

Industry Designation "Human Resource" Program

PMPI has developed a program that will allow our members with industry designations to share their experiences and expertise with the future CMP’s, CMM’s, CEM’s, CGMP’s etc., of tomorrow. In 2012 we are launching the first ever Industry Designation "Human Resource" Program. We will be using our greatest resource; experienced, working industry peers within PMPI, to help answer inquiries, provide direction, leadership, general knowledge and share personal experience with those PMPI members interested in taking ownership of their own professional development by acquiring one or more of the various industry designation and certification programs.

Below is a list of PMPI members willing to accept your outreach with questions regarding their particular designation and industry discipline and resulting in helping to act as a trusted counselor or supporter to guide you through the process. Who best to learn from than from someone who has already gone through the process. Most communication will be via e-mail, telephone, and to a lesser degree, in person if both parties desire and are able to meet face-to-face.

Based on the amount of interest our designation volunteers receive on this initial program we may provide a more formalized program later down the road in which a mentor and mentee are identified and matched for a specified period of time.

The Community Outreach Committee will collect items during the upcoming E2 on April 19, and also at Derby Days on May 1. For more information on items needed please click here.

The COC is also accepting nominations for the 2012-2013 Charity of the Year. We’d love to hear what’s near and dear to your heart, so send us your suggestions no later than May 7, 2012. Many of our members stepped up to the plate giving us another great response to the call for nominations for the Star Award. The Star Award has been established to recognize those individuals whose contributions to our chapter go "above and beyond".

Hopefully you all saw the ballot (6 outstanding nominees!) and voted for your favorite nominee.

Come attend the PMPI event on April 19th to hear the winner announced!

Who do you know that deserves recognition? Keep that question (or the answer) in mind for the next call for nominations!
