April Educational Experience

On April 19 we'll gather at the luxurious Hotel Monaco to enjoy a very engaging session titled "The Business of Social and the Social of Business."

Whether you want to be considered a strategic contributor to your organization or enhance your resume value in the job market, it’s time to grow your awareness and involvement in social media networks. Regardless of where the official social responsibility lies, you DO have responsibility for member experience and can benefit greatly by using social to enhance your relationships.

Hear Michelle Lapierre’s story about how social media channels have changed the business landscape forever. She’ll review current events, rehash the arguments for why we can’t ignore social any longer, and lay out practical skill-sharpening steps you must take in order to thrive in our business-social/social-business world.

During her lifelong career in hospitality sales and marketing, Michelle has held myriad professional positions, from on-property operations to corporate strategic development. In her current position with Marriott Rewards & Ritz-Carlton Rewards, Michelle oversees the program's social media presence. She is being a member of Marriott's prestigious Social Media Center of Excellence, whose charter is to set the enterprise-wide investment strategies for the burgeoning social media community worldwide.

As a member of MPI’s CMM faculty, Michelle teaches the strategic marketing course, preparing meeting professionals to position their meetings and events within the organization's strategic framework.

As a member in good standing, you have the opportunity to contest the slate of candidates by submitting additional nominations (as indicated below) on or before March 14, 2012. Assuming no position is contested, the submitted slate shall officially be elected. If the slate is not contested, the final and binding list will be sent to MPI headquarters by April 1st.

Contesting the Slate: Additional nominations from the membership shall be permitted if a minimum of ten (10) percent* of the membership has signed a petition to submit each additional nomination to the membership, provided such petitions are received by PMPI within two (2) weeks from original announcement. Petitions for additional nominations must be for a specific seat or office and must reflect the individual being challenged. A member must have applied for the position for which they are petitioning. The petition form must include a printed name, signature and membership number. Each petition must be supported by written notice from the additional nominees of their availability and willingness to serve, as well as a photograph and biography.

If less than ten (10) percent * of the membership contests the slate; the proposed slate will be confirmed. If more than ten (10) percent * of the membership contests the slate, an election for all contested positions will be conducted. If a position is contested, the individuals running for the contested position shall be fairly presented to the membership through an electronic distribution with qualifications of both parties represented. Then the membership shall respond to the ballot. The winner shall be the person receiving the most votes cast. The final and binding list of elected chapter officials will be sent to MPI headquarters by May 1.

Newly elected officers and directors shall be installed at the next annual meeting following election.

*Percentage will be calculated based on the total number of members of the Potomac Chapter as of December for the current chapter year. As of December 31, 2011, there were 998 members.

If you have any questions regarding the process or this slate, please direct them to me. On behalf of the entire nominating committee, we encourage you to support the candidates slated for the 2012-2013 PMPI Board of Directors. Thank you to the committee for taking the time to deliberate on each applicant's submission, qualifications and merits. It has been my pleasure to serve in this capacity.

Sincerely,

Michelle D. Allgauer, CAE, CMM, CMP

Chair, Governance & Nominating Committee Immediate Past President, PMPI
