MPI Potomac FYI
A Message from our Leadership

President, MPI Potomac

Hello MPI Potomac!

I am so thrilled to be President of the MPI Potomac Chapter, and I am looking forward to engaging with you over the next year.

What is my vision for 2017-2018? There is no glorious vision, no grand plan, no shoot for the stars mentality. This next year is about YOU – the members. It has always been about YOU.

It’s about listening to you, what you need, what you want, and to be providing you as many opportunities as possible to achieve your personal and professional goals. Whether that is through our networking events or our Educational opportunities, this next year will be about focusing on fundamentals.

I am very excited about our Board of Directors – they are a very well rounded, multifaceted group with such varying degrees of experience and backgrounds. This is sure to be a successful year. In May, we spent two days at our incoming retreat, designing programming and events for the upcoming year that we are confident you will find engaging and worthwhile. You will see the return of such favorites as Summer Sizzle, Derby Days, and our very popular fall joint event "Get Hooked" with the PCMA Capital Chapter. For those that are considering obtaining their CMP certification be sure to take advantage of our 11 week CMP Study Course or one of our weekend CMP Boot Camps. And, of course, MACE! – our main educational event of the year – will be coming back, on February 27, 2018 at the Omni Shoreham in DC, but with a new twist that we are all very excited about. Look for more information in the coming months.

You will hear more from me each month in "FYI" – our e-newsletter about our plans for the year, goals we have set, and opportunities that we are creating for each of you to achieve the most out of your membership. But for right now my main message is:

Talk to us. Tell us. Volunteer. Get involved. This is YOUR chapter. We are here to make your experience the best it can be, but we need your feedback. Engage with us – let us know what you’re thinking. When the annual membership survey comes out, please take part and provide your honest feedback. We take your comments every seriously and want to shape the chapter based on the needs of the membership.

Volunteering is a key component to our overall chapter success. Eleven years ago when I walked into my first MPI Potomac event, you could not have convinced me that one day I would be speaking with you as President. My journey is a true testament to the organization and the opportunities that are presented to you if you want to take advantage of them. After serving on MPI Potomac’s Board for six years on the Director level, as Vice President, and for the past year as President-Elect – the honor of serving as your President is one that I never saw for myself.

And it all started with someone recognizing that there was a potential leader inside me, and asking me to step up and believe in myself. And I challenge all of you, our current and future members to do that. Challenge yourselves. Step up and become involved. Take chances and put yourselves out there. Will there be failures? Absolutely. But the rewards you receive will far outweigh the risks you will take.

Our chapter grows and becomes even better when we all work together.
