Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV III) Memorial Program

The Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) III Monument Program recognizes the service and sacrifice of the Canadian Armed Forces in Afghanistan by providing full-size demilitarized replica LAV IIIs to qualifying communities throughout Canada. These vehicles were originally manufactured by Canadians at General Dynamics Land Systems Canada (GDLSC) in London, Ontario and were instrumental to our troops in carrying out their missions while in Afghanistan.

The monuments will be created from decommissioned LAV III hulls, donated by the Government of Canada. The cost of replication will be funded by interested communities who receive approval from the Selection Committee to install these monuments.

The LAV III Monument program was announced on November 5, 2014 with a prototype monument sponsored by the Government of Canada and built by GDLSC.

Then, on June 19th, 2015, the Town of Oromocto and Fredericton was awarded this prototype monument by the Selection Committee for submitting the most compelling application.
