Campaigning Begins for June 7th Provincial Election

The Liberals remain focused on passing the Budget Bill on about May 5, before the writ must drop on May 9, bringing to an end the 41st legislature.

OGCA will be active with the parties, raising our issues and preparing to work closely with the next government.

We will share with you the issues and proposals we will raise during the campaign. We are working closely with our colleagues in the industry to encourage a discussion. We encourage all members to be involved in the campaign for the Party or candidate of your choice.

The options are many and include volunteering your time, contributing financially or supporting a third Party campaign. The overhaul to the Election Finances Act doesn’t allow business and unions to make political contributions, and personal contributions are restricted to $1,222 to a candidate, and the same amount to a political party (see Elections Ontario notice).

Third parties are also raising funds and advertising during the campaign. We are very familiar with the Working Families campaigns that have spent millions supporting the Liberals in past elections. They will no doubt be active again.

A new group called Ontario Proud has emerged to challenge the Liberal record and support the PC Party. If you are interested, please click here to see more information.

Some members have expressed interest in supporting AG Naqvi in his campaign. Donations can be made online through the central web site.

For Minister Naqvi, be sure to click on his constituency Ottawa Centre.
