CDAO Achieves Financial support for study on the Quality of Documents and their Impact on Projects

We have all been trying to find solutions to these problems, to end the cycle of RFIs and COs that lead to endless litigation and disputes, and delay projects, not just from closing on time (as the closing date keeps being extended), but from being completed on time and on budget.

These issues benefit no one in the industry. From suppliers to owners, these issues cost money and hurt projects.

We have heard from many senior government Ministers and staff, both Federally and Provincially, that they agree, but just how much is it costing the taxpayer. What is the actual impact of not having high quality documents for which the Consultants are paid fairly and on which Contractors can bid more reliably.

We hope to answer those questions as the CDAO has entered into an agreement with Ryerson University to conduct an in-depth study of these problems and provide us with real results of how these issues impact our projects.

The CDAO is pleased that many other organizations have stepped up to support this initiative. The Mechanical Contractors of Canada were one of the first and strongest supporters of this research. In the DCN story that follows, CCA has stepped up to assist and as a result, we have heard from many other local Associations such as Grand Valley and Toronto who are willing to contribute.

Planning is now underway to launch this program and we look forward to working with all those who have supported this effort and to providing some real information that we believe will influence owners to consider the value of Project Preparation, and to providing the necessary resources before a project is Tendered or started to ensure the absolute best value for the public.
