Leadership Day Promotes a Culture of Safety

The COR Open House and OGCA Leadership Day is an opportunity for construction leaders to come together to renew their commitment to health and safety and also allow for peers, owners and government to learn from one another. With strong leaders promoting a culture of safety, each speaker spoke about strategies, processes and performance measures that can be used to enhance their company and its commitment.

We were honored to have the Honorable Kevin Flynn, Minister of Labour, who kicked off the morning speaking about the construction “climate” and where the industry stands.

He encouraged all attendees to continue improving safety in the industry, because it is making an impact.

He was there to support and congratulate the newest Champions to the League of Champions by distributing to each their jersey of courage.

Minister Flynn also presented this year’s 2018 Doug Chalmers Award to safety champion Dan Fleming, corporate director of occupational health and safety training at EllisDon. Dan is one of the most recognizable champions of safety. He is constantly finding new ways to raise the bar in safety and was the lead catalyst in OGCA developing the Safety Pass. Congratulations to you, Dan.

OGCA and IHSA would like to extend a warm thank you to all our speakers who provided thought-provoking topics, our partners and sponsors for their support in making this event the success it was, and finally, to all those who attended. It may be cliché to say, but it’s also true: we couldn’t have done it without you!
