"We are extremely proud to have ENR recognize these projects on the global stage. PCL congratulates all of our partners involved with the Rogers Place and BMO Field Expansion projects in attaining these accolades. It’s fitting that both these projects are sports related, as significant collaboration and teamwork went into successfully building them," says PCL president and CEO, Dave Filipchuk.

Rogers Place and its related infrastructure boast 1.1 million square feet of space, the largest true high-definition scoreboard in the NHL, and expansive concourses lit by natural light. Rogers Place anchors a major revitalization of Edmonton’s downtown and has spurred $5 billion in private and public developments, including ICE District, which will be Canada’s largest sports and entertainment district.

Following an aggressive two-phased renovation, upgrades to Toronto’s BMO Field revitalized its identity, capacity, and multipurpose flexibility, elevating Canada’s first soccer-specific stadium to a world-class outdoor sports venue. The addition of a canopy roof covering the east, west, and south grandstands, coupled with a new sound and lighting system and concourse accessibility unify the fan experience, while extensive improvements to concessions, clubs, and suites establish a new level of luxury for the gameday experience.

Industry veterans selected 23 projects from 17 different countries and six continents as outstanding examples of designing and building internationally. The judges looked at projects in many markets and examined safety performance, innovations, challenges, and design and construction quality—with a special emphasis on the diversity of global project teams and their collaboration.

These are the sixth and seventh Global Best Projects awards won by PCL Construction in the five years ENR has held this event, with the BMO Field Expansion project recognized in the Renovation/Restoration category, and Rogers Place in the Sports/Entertainment category. The awards were presented at the ENR Global Best Projects Awards Gala on October 23, 2017, in New York City.
