U.S. Geological Survey Director Marcia McNutt announced Jan. 14 that she will be stepping down effective Feb. 15. McNutt timed her departure to follow the launch of the Landsat 8 satellite on Feb. 11, she told organization employees. Deputy Director Suzette Kimball will become acting director and associate director for water; Bill Werkheiser will become the acting deputy director. USGS is an agency under the Department of the Interior. Timing for announcement of a new permanent director is unclear.
