Following a tour of Kentucky schools late last year, Build With Strength has released a series of videos promoting the benefits of using Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) and how they're helping Warren County (KY) public schools become some of the strongest in the country. ICFs are quickly becoming the building material of choice for educational facilities due to their strength, energy efficiency and ease of use.

NRMCA Producer member CEMEX and five of its ready mix concrete plants in northern California have earned the first ever Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) certification in the U.S. The plants are also the first CSC-certified plants within CEMEX's operations around the world. The five plants, located in Oakland, San Carlos, Santa Clara, San Jose and at Pier 92 in San Francisco, met the CSC criteria as confirmed through an external audit by SGS, an independent, third-party certification body.

Learn how you can help transform the way we build by joining NRMCA for this free Webinar series. Communicate, educate, advocate and convert are the key strategies to increase market share of concrete in the low/mid-rise building market. Since its launch in 2016, the Build With Strength initiative has helped bolster concrete’s position in the low and mid-rise building markets. Join NRMCA to learn how you can engage in the concrete industry’s most comprehensive promotion program ever.

NRMCA is ramping up its political support for industry champions as we approach what looks to be a contentious and difficult campaign season. A number of NRMCA’s champions will face tough elections, both during primary season and in the 2018 November general election, and NRMCA is committed to supporting industry champions during this tough election. During the first quarter of 2018, NRMCA Government Affairs has supported several industry champions, including the reelection campaigns for Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO), Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY), Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-KS) and Rep. Julia Brownley (D-CA). Rep. Brownley is a founding member and co-chair of NRMCA’s Congressional Ready Mixed Concrete Caucus.

NRMCA will continue to support industry champions and help reelect Members of Congress who are supportive of pro-business and pro-ready mixed concrete advocacy initiatives. To see how your Member of Congress rates on NRMCA’s Scorecard, click here.

The $1.3 trillion spending bill signed by President Trump on Friday, March 23, included increased funding for both transportation and for disaster relief programs. The Transportation, Housing and Urban Development portion of the bill included an additional $21.2 billion in new funding for FY2018 to rebuild and modernize infrastructure; $8.7 billion for transportation; $2.5 billion in new funding for highway grants; $834 million in new funding for mass transit grants; $1 billion increase in the Airport Improvement Program and a $1 billion increase in TIGER grants. In addition, the Department of Homeland Security portion of the bill provided $7.8 billion in disaster relief and $3 billion in disaster grants, state Homeland Security grants, city and local preparedness grants, predisaster mitigation grants and flood hazard mapping and risk analysis.

The accounts and projects that are funded through these provisions are all concrete intensive and funding these accounts is an industry priority.

If you have any questions about these provisions, please contact Andrew Tyrrell at atyrrell@nrmca.org.

There are two upcoming opportunities for you to come to Washington and lobby Congress for infrastructure:

The 2018 Fleet Benchmarking Survey is filled out by industry fleet managers and/or financial managers early each year, based on data gathered from the previous calendar year’s performance. This year’s form includes new questions on mixer drum composition, idle time and types of fuel being used. The survey is used to establish industry benchmarking norms and procedures. Information gathered is published each autumn in a report in NRMCA's Concrete InFocus magazine. A shorter Executive Summary of the survey is also made available to all.

Entries must be e-mailed to Gary Mullings by Friday, April 20, 2018. Click here for more information on and to download the 2018 Fleet Benchmarking Survey entry form.

The Safety Contest & Benchmarking Survey has for years been a safety performance and incentive/award program aimed to foster safe practices at ready mixed concrete plants across the nation. The Safety Contest & Benchmarking Survey is a per-plant contest open to all facilities operated by NRMCA member companies in good standing in 2017. Companies with more than one division are encouraged to distribute entry blanks to individuals responsible for keeping safety records at each plant location.

Entries must be e-mailed to NRMCA's Karen Bean by Friday, April 27. Click here for staff contact, more information and to download the entry form.
