NRMCA is now accepting entries for its 2017 Kids Art Contest, sponsored by the Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau. The theme for the contest is "Build with Strength - Building to Withstand the Test of Time." The contest is open to children up to grade 12 who have a relationship with an NRMCA member.

Please join NRMCA and guest speaker Tara Blank, Ph.D., from Elixir Environmental on Thursday, September 22, at 1 p.m. Eastern time who will provide ready mixed concrete producers guidance in developing Health Product Declarations (HPDs), and the challenges one can experience at each step. Although several prominent architectural/engineering consulting firms are already requiring HPDs for product specification beginning in October 2016, LEED v4 project teams will be requesting information from suppliers about the hazards associated with their material ingredients.

The The City of Wells and Faribault County, MN, completed a $1.64 million street and utility reconstruction project on a county highway. Wells City Engineer Travis Winter said the city decided to reconstruct with concrete because of needed infrastructure work (water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer replacement) below the roadway. Wells has historically preferred concrete streets, Winter said, citing concrete’s longer life expectancy.

Construction on the concrete makeover of several Humble, TX, roads recently began as part of the city’s 2016 Concrete Pavement Improvement Plan. Asphalt-paved roads will be converted to 6 inches of concrete pavement. Curbs on some streets and intersections will also be converted. Construction is expected to conclude in early 2018 and provide more long-term solutions for Humble infrastructure, said Public Works Director Barry Brock. "[Asphalt] is good for 15-20 years and [concrete] is good for 40-50 years," Brock said.
