Parking Lot Boot Camps Continue Providing Strong Value to Producers, Contractors

Two Parking Lot Boot Camps conducted since the end of March have produced expected results, reports Jon Hansen, NRMCA senior vice president, local paving.

“First come Boot Camps, then come the DAP’S, and then come the projects. It’s a system that works,” Hansen stressed. "What is also interesting to note is that we are going into the same geographical regions multiple times, each time with a different contractor. It appears success breeds success, with contractors noticing what their competition is doing and wanting to get in on the action. And competing contractors are finding success as they each work their company client base. So, to answer the anticipated question, NO, the market is not becoming saturated, the market is GROWING in favor of concrete. We simply teach them in Boot Camp to offer their customers a choice. Proof again that there is plenty of opportunity for everyone and to use a cliché, 'A rising tide lifts all boats'.”

In a related item, the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) members of the NRMCA/ASCC Joint Paving Committee endorsed the NRMCA Parking Lot Boot Camp last week during ASCC committee week in St. Louis. The contractor members of the committee want to take Parking Lot Boot Camp to the next level within ASCC, partnering with local ready mix producers.

An NRMCA Parking Lot Boot Camp is a 10-hour program, typically conducted over 2 days at the contractor or producer’s site. Parking Lot Boot Camps create a team approach for producers and contractors to pursue parking lot opportunities in their service market, be they new parking lot construction or concrete overlays of asphalt parking lots. The program has become widely successful in helping everyone - producer and contractor - expand their business into paving markets that they normally did not have or only had a small percentage of. Parking Lot Boot Camps are conducted by the NRMCA Local Paving Team.
