Capital Beltway In Need of Major Restoration, But How to Proceed Poses the Challenge

The Capital Beltway, which surrounds Washington, DC, in Maryland and Virginia, is in need of major repairs. Or, as The Washington Post recently wrote, it's "dying beneath your turning wheels." What to do? Well, closing large sections of the road for any length of time is pretty much out of the question because even when it's open, traffic on the Beltway and surrounding roads often move at a snail's pace. The newspaper's article on the state of the roadway and how to address the problem generated a lot of reader response - more than 1,300 comments and counting.
