Construction of a 50-turbine wind farm in Nebraska will use massive amounts of concrete for the turbines' foundations, pedestals and roads leading to the farm. Concrete foundations are 8 feet deep and 56 feet across and shaped like an octagon. Circular pedestals sit 3 feet deep into the foundation and are 14 feet around. In all, a single turbine requires 750,000 pounds of concrete to support it, along with 46,000 pounds of steel.
