Recently, NRMCA’s Pavement Engineer Amanda Hult presented “Basic Design for Concrete Parking Lots” to a group of designers and industry professionals as a part of the “From the Ground Up” seminar hosted by the Arkansas Ready Mixed Concrete Association (ARMCA) in Springdale.

"I wanted to present the attendees with the complete package, starting with the dirt, moving up to the forming and then to the parking lot pavement,” said ARMCA Executive Director Rita Madison.

The attendees learned about the importance of understanding what is under their concrete. “We know that having a good, stable support for the concrete slab to sit on is very important,” added Hult. Attendees were shown the procedure for designing the thickness of a parking lot as well identifying other elements necessary for a comprehensive pavement design.
