NRMCA Joins Program Operators Consortium

Recently, NRMCA joined the Program Operators Consortium (POC) as the first industry association to become an affiliate member. The POC is the green building industry’s first and leading consortium of program operators. The POC was formed to provide more useful environmental product transparency solutions and to reduce complexity in the marketplace by:

• Standardizing how LCA-based standards for reporting product environmental performance get created;
• Providing improved reports to help decision-makers specify materials and products; and
• Combining efforts to improve access to and recognition of manufacturers’ product transparency reports.

As NRMCA is the leading EPD program operator for the concrete industry, aligning with the POC provides wonderful opportunities for the ready mixed concrete industry, states NRMCA Senior Director, Sustainability Initiatives, James Bogdan. Examples include:

• Access to a network of practitioners and experts, where many are already partners in our EPD verification program;
• Influence with evolving environmental disclosure reporting;
• Enable the revision of the concrete PCR with evolving trends toward standardization and consistency;
• Marketing the POC catalog of PCRs and EPDs to AEC influencers; and
• Collaboration with an organization that’s committed to disclosure reporting.

As part of the Build with Strength campaign, NRMCA promotes Strength Through Transparency for member and industry competitiveness in the green building marketplace and the trends toward product and company transparency.
