Supreme Court Halts EPA Clean Power Plan

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court granted a stay of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Power Plan (CPP). The CPP, finalized and published last August by EPA, aims to limit the carbon emissions from power plants. Specifically, the CPP is designed to cut emissions by 32% from 2005 levels by 2030. By a vote of 5 to 4, the Supreme Court stayed the rule at the request of a coalition of 26 states claiming the CPP would cause them irreparable harm. The court stated the CPP was on hold while other various ongoing cases challenging the CPP were still pending.
