Four researchers from Stanford University will present their recent concrete research during the 2013 International Concrete Sustainability Conference, May 6-8, in San Francisco. During the opening general session of the conference, Dr. Michael Lepech (shown here), PhD, assistant professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford University, will discuss how innovations in the area of Virtual Infrastructure Management are leveraging the benefits of concrete technologies to reduce the impact of building and infrastructure construction.

Dr. Lepech’s research interests are guided by the Sustainable Integrated Materials, Structures, and Systems (SIMSS) design approach. The SIMSS design approach recognizes the interdependencies between materials design, structural engineering and system management, along with the impacts each of these disciplines has on achieving more sustainable engineered systems. The other Stanford speakers include:

• Subhan Ali, graduate student, Stanford University, will present Tailoring of Polypropylene Fibers for the Design of Sustainable Fiber-reinforced Cement-based Composites by Subhan Ali and Michael Lepech
• Matthew Bandelt, graduate student, Stanford University,  will present Bond in Strain Hardening Fiber-Reinforced Cement Based Composites by Matthew Bandelt and Sarah Billington
• Madeleine Flint, graduate student, Stanford University, will present Performance-Based Assessment of Concrete Durability in Coastal Structure, Madeleine Flint and Sarah Billington
