Last week, NPMA signed onto an industry letter
urging the Senate to pass the Regulatory Accountability Act of 2017 (RAA)
. The RAA compiles six earlier reform bills, which would benefit consumers and entrepreneurs by reforming the process by which Federal agencies analyze and formulate new regulations and guidance documents, to clarify the nature of judicial review of agency interpretations, to ensure complete analysis of potential impacts on small entities of rules, and for other purposes.
The RAA recently passed the House with a bipartisan vote of 238-183 and we are optimistic that the Senate will move forward with passage of the bill as incoming President Elect Donald Trump has expressed the need for regulatory reform articulated in the RAA.
Last Thursday, the EPA published preliminary pollinator risk assessments for the following neonicotinoids: clothianidin, thiamethoxam and dinotefuran (imidacloprid was completed in 2016). In addition, the EPA updated the imidacloprid review with potential risk to aquatic species. The assessments for clothianidin, thiamethoxam, and dinotefuran, similar to the preliminary pollinator assessment for imidacloprid showed: most approved uses do not pose significant risks to bee colonies. With regards imidacloprid, the EPA found no direct risk to fish or aquatic phase amphibians but some minimal indirect risks.
The data collected is based on agriculture use patterns. EPA is in the process of collecting data for residential and ornamental uses and their impact on pollinators. NPMA will be working with EPA to provide necessary data and information that accurately represents the structural pest management industry use patterns. Please click here
for a detailed schedule for the review of the neonicotinoids.
A contestant on the TV reality show "American Ninja Warrior" put some different skills to use when he rescued a motorist who was choking alongside a New York street. Exterminator Pavel Fesyuk says he was driving a Town and Country Pest Solutions vehicle with his cellphone camera recording video from the dashboard when he spotted a man bent over the trunk of his car Tuesday on a Rochester street.
