As senior leaders, we are responsible for guiding our volunteer Boards and staff through the critical decisions, changes and choices our organizations face now and in the future. Our panel of experts will take a close look at some of the hot topics on the minds of CEOs today. Our panel will discuss issues including trends in CEO compensation, the competencies nonprofit and association Boards expect from their chief of staff, generating revenue through innovation, and knowing when your organization is ready to rebrand and evolve.

MODERATOR

Michael Thatcher
President & CEO, CHARITY NAVIGATOR

Did you know Charity Navigator is also a Charity? Takes one to know one. They talk about trust, support, accountability, transparency. Your audiences-- individuals and companies you engage with and expect to follow you, are smarter now than ever before. They have to be. They research before they donate, join, accept an award or volunteer. Whether you lead a member- or donor-based organization, your role is to protect your organization’s brand and reputation.

THE CRITICAL ISSUES PANEL:

Vijay Dandapani
President & CEO, Hotel Association of New York City (HANYC)

Vijay, Co-Founder and Former President & CEO of Apple Core Hotels, will discuss transitioning from his volunteer leadership role as an HANYC Board member and Chair to his current position at HANYC. While associations and nonprofits are doing a good job keeping pace with changing member and donor demographics, communications and technology trends, are we seeing more and more for-profit leaders transferring to the non-profit world?

Sandra E. Pace
Managing Director, Steven Hall Partners Executive Compensation

Sandra, an expert in CEO compensation design for non-profits, leads the firm’s non-profit practice and spearheads the firm’s marketing pricing capabilities. Sandra will discuss recent trends in non-profit executive compensation, governance best practices and relevant topics such as pay for performance, succession planning, competitive versus “excessive” compensation” and the similarities and differences in executive compensation among for-profits and non-profits.

Stephen J. Pasierb
President and CEO, The Toy Association

Steve leads the largest association of its kind in the world – and they just recently unveiled a new mission statement, new name, and major rebrand driven by an innovative strategic plan. Its new tagline, “Inspiring Generations of Play,” underscores the Association’s 100+ years of service. Steve questioned every aspect of their reason for being and led the changes, including a new image, an emphasis on branding, a new approach to digital communications, and new office headquarters to serve staff and members alike. Steve will lead us through this dramatic transformation.

Maura Regan
Executive Vice President,
International Licensing Industry Merchandiser’s Association (LIMA)

Maura was previously SVP, Sesame Workshop. Non-profits generated $921 million through licensing of their names and trademarks. Maura will share her vast knowledge of the power of licensing, how nonprofits and associations can leverage their brands to generate significant revenue through licensing deals.
