To kick off National 9-1-1 Education Month, NENA, with support from Comcast, released a pair of thirty-second videos highlighting the life-saving services provided by America’s 9-1-1 professionals and the need to modernize our nation’s 9-1-1 system. Both videos are available on NENA’s YouTube Channel and can be downloaded by 9-1-1 public educators for local use from NENA’s 9-1-1 Education Month webpage.
The first video, "Thank You, 9-1-1," is a salute to 9-1-1 professionals across the country, encouraging public appreciation of these unsung heroes of public safety who answer more than 240 million calls for help each year.
The second video, "Next Generation 9-1-1 Now," focuses on the need to transition from today’s overwhelmingly voice-centric 9-1-1 service to Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911).

Instant access to accurate caller location information is crucial during all 9-1-1 calls. Call handling systems must provide call takers with the ability to pinpoint the exact location of a caller, whether the call is placed from a landline or wireless phone. As PSAPs transition to Next Generation 9-1-1, the databases that provide the raw location data and the mapping solutions that display that data must be optimized for emergency call handling.
This webinar looks at the importance of accurate location data from a PSAP’s perspective. It presents a real-world example of how a fully optimized mapping solution enabled one PSAP to effectively respond to a school shooting hoax and apprehend the caller in thirteen minutes. Presenters will look at how all PSAPs can leverage GIS databases, sophisticated mapping applications, and third-party location information to optimize call handling and improve response times.
Speakers: Jennifer Hunt - Marion County, Arkansas | Tony Parrott - Solacom | Nancy MacDonald - Solacom | Reinhard Ekl - RapidSOS
CEUs: Attend this webinar and receive one-half ENP re-certification point toward the six-point maximum for non-NENA courses in the Professional Development CEU/Course Credits section.

As we deploy NG9-1-1 across the country, the focus has a tendency to be on receiving and transporting the "call". What about all of the data (information pertaining to that call) that also needs to be transported along with it? NG9-1-1 has accounted for that data, it’s called the Emergency Incident Data Document (EIDD) which is the container for moving that data from the PSAP receipt of the call and initiation of the incident, all the way through to its end.
This FAQ gives a summary of both the EIDD and the Incident Data Exchange (IDX) and is designed to provide a working knowledge of what these items are and what they are not.
The NENA Communications Center/PSAP Disaster and Contingency Plans Model Recommendation is intended to serve as a reference to a contingency planning section of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for use by Communications Centers and/or PSAP Authorities as guidance in the formulation of an agency SOP. Each agency is unique in its resources and operations and as such, this document should be modified and/or updated to meet the requirements and legal obligations of differing modes of operations.
