This free webinar explains how the FCC measures the performance of the wireless location technologies currently used to locate 9-1-1 phone calls made from cell phones. The webinar delves into the latest announcements from the FCC, including statements about county-wide averaging, a single location accuracy requirement, as well as an indoor location requirement. Also, analysts from Ovum review the results of a recent report that exposes the limitations of particular location techniques and shows the benefits of others.

The NENA Membership Committee is in the process of putting together a memorial for NENA Members who have recently passed. The remembrance will be part of NENA 2012. The criteria for inclusion that the Committee agreed upon is: A NENA Member who was actively involved in 9-1-1, e.g. Emergency Communications Board members, support personnel, (GIS, addressing, etc.) or PSAP personnel (directors, supervisors, dispatchers, calltakers, support staff).

If there is someone you would like to include in the tribute, please send the person's name, job title, agency, year of death, and a picture to Linda Draughn-Woloski. To create this memorial in time for our annual conference, please submit the requested information no later than May 18.

Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (D-Palo Alto) issued the following statement recently welcoming April as National 9-1-1 Education Month:

"9-1-1 continues to be America's best-known number and our most often used public safety tool," said Rep. Eshoo. "Our local 9-1-1 call centers are on the front lines making sure that emergency information is delivered quickly and accurately to first responders. So as advancements in technology usher in new tools that expand the way we call in emergencies, it's important that people know how to utilize them. This month we can make it a point to raise public awareness, especially about Next Generation 9-1-1 technology that, in the coming years, will give local call centers the capability to receive text messages, photos, and video from people at the scene of an emergency. In life threatening situations, this enhanced information is vital to first responders."
