Latest News

After careful consideration, NENA has decided to reschedule the NENA 2020 Conference & Expo, previously planned for June 13-18 in Long Beach, CA. The new dates are September 24-29 and Long Beach remains our host city. With the well-being of attendees, exhibitors, sponsors, and volunteers as the number one priority, it is clear that rescheduling #NENA2020 is the only responsible course of action at this time.

We remain excited to host the 9-1-1 community later this year. A revised conference schedule and event details are now available at nena.org/nena2020.

Please take a moment to let us know if you have any questions regarding the date change; your voice matters, and we care about your feedback.

We look forward to seeing you in the fall. Until then, stay safe and healthy!

If you are a #NENA2020 registrant, speaker, or exhibit coordinator, check your inbox for a message sent on the morning of May 1 containing further event-rescheduling details specific to you.

NENA members are telling us they’re in dire need of cleaning and disinfecting supplies to keep themselves safe from COVID-19, and NENA put the word out looking for help. Within hours of our appeal, AvKARE, a Tennessee-based distributor of infection-control products, offered PSAPs a free supply of hand sanitizer and a 25% discount on their product Waltz D - which is used widely in healthcare, food service, education, and commercial settings - by using promo code EMERGENCY. Thank you, AvKARE for stepping up so quickly in support of North America’s 9-1-1 professionals!

As NENA continues to closely monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we have developed a list of resources for members, chapters, and the greater 9-1-1 community.

NENA's COVID-19 resource page contains items including PSAP-guidance documents, EMD protocols, on-demand webinars, CoOPs and planning checklists, event-planner assistance, public education graphics, health and hygiene best practices, and many more resources to support you and your work during this ever-evolving situation. This page is updated with new information as it becomes available.

Do you have or know of other resources that should be posted? If so, you can contact NENA's Communications Director, Chris Nussman.

The NG9-1-1 Interoperability Oversight Commission (NIOC) is proud to announce an RFP award to tech companies Eonti and DigiCert to operate the PSAP Credentialing Agency (PCA). This is a key element in building greater trust and interoperability in Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) systems. The award is a significant milestone in establishing a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for NG9-1-1, as required by the prevailing standards for NG9-1-1 and recommended by other leading groups including the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Task Force on Optimal PSAP Architecture (TFOPA).

The new NENA Enhanced PSAP Registry & Census (EPRC) service provides an online portal for information about PSAPs having jurisdiction for any USA location (includes Puerto Rico). This includes 24x7 10-digit numbers for each PSAP. The EPRC will completely replace the previous PSAP Registry, and requires issuance of unique credentials to each NENA validated user.

All current NPR users must obtain new credentials (ID and Password) for the EPRC as soon as possible, since access and familiarization with the new database is necessary before the old NPR is turned down soon. Users both old and new can obtain EPRC credentials at eprc.nena.org.

A major new feature is map oriented, visual inquiry to find PSAP data, and inquiries can also be coordinate-based, or community- or address-related. Public-safety users now have an online update function to provide proposed changes to PSAP data items; the updates are vetted by NENA before activation in the live database. Questions may be directed to 911eprc@nena.org.

We’re in this together. With the extraordinary personal and professional challenges we're all facing during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has never been more vital to engage with each other, keep important conversations and connections going, and do all we can to stay motivated, informed, and prepared. As such, NENA is extending the membership renewal grace period to May 31 for all members yet to renew for 2020. Enjoy uninterrupted member services and benefits during this period, and stay connected to the information, tools, and resources you need to meet the challenges at hand.

Please contact member services at membership@nena.org if you have any questions. We stand by ready to assist in any way can.

Volunteers Wanted

Personal and professional wellness is important, but we find that now, more than ever, we need to take care of ourselves, our families, and those on our teams. The NENA Wellness Continuum initiative is a comprehensive approach to wellness in the 9-1-1 industry. By sharing resources, best practices, and helpful tools and training in one location, we strive to inspire innovation and support wellness in all 9-1-1 professionals.

These materials address a wide range of topics that apply to not only an individual, but also an organization. The content is user driven, and we need your recommendations. If you have resources that you have used and feel would be beneficial for others to access, we encourage you to submit those materials (written, web, video, etc.) to help spark a groundswell of wellness initiatives across the industry.

Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce (TERT) programs provide communications-specific mutual aid between PSAPs to provide trained personnel during extended, high-impact emergencies. Volunteers are sought to update the Standard for TERT Deployment; this revision of the standard will assist PSAPs and 9-1-1 authorities with the information required for developing, training, equipping, and deploying standardized TERT teams.
