The Recommended Best Practices for Supplemental 9-1-1 Location Data document was released this week by NENA, after months of collaboration with the National Association of State 911 Administrators (NASNA), the Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies (iCERT), and the National 9-1-1 Program Office.

Designed for use by both PSAPs and supplemental location data providers such as mobile applications, third-party location providers, telematics, and others, the guidance will help 9-1-1 systems to safely and efficiently incorporate data that’s in addition to what is required from telecom service providers.

NENA has established a scholarship program to honor the commitment of William "Bill" McMurray, ENP, Past President, to the mission of NENA and 9-1-1 education. The scholarship will be awarded for the NENA 2019 Conference & Expo, and covers the conference registration fee and four nights of lodging at a conference hotel (to be determined by NENA upon awarding of scholarship). Travel expenses to and from the conference and meals are not included in this award.

NENA is now accepting applications for the position of 9-1-1 & PSAP Operations Director. Click here for the full job description and submission instructions. The deadline to apply is 5:00PM Eastern on Thursday, February 28, 2019.
Voting for NENA's 2019-20 Board of Directors commences on Monday, March 11. On that day, eligible members will receive an email with a direct link to NENA's online ballot along with voting instructions. Once a member logs in, he or she will be able to review the nominations and vote. After officially casting a vote, the voter will not be able to change his or her vote or access the ballot again. This election is for the following positions:
 
Second Vice President

Northeastern Region Director

North-Central Region Director 

The election for Canadian Region Director is uncontested, and therefore will not be open for voting. The positions of Southeastern Region Director, Western Region Director, and Private Sector Director will be up for election in 2020.

After the voting period has ended, the Election Committee will certify the results on Saturday, June 15 in Orlando, FL, in accordance with the NENA Bylaws. Join us at NENA 2019 in Orlando from June 14-19, where the results of the election will be announced and your new Board of Directors installed!

Volunteers Wanted

The Delivery of Next Generation Services Via the Cloud Work Group is focused on delivery of NG9-1-1 services via a cloud deployment model. This group is charged with developing an Information Document that defines and characterizes public and private cloud-based deployments. In addition, it will cover operational, physical security, cybersecurity, reliability resiliency and availability considerations of NG9-1-1 services delivered using a cloud-based deployment model. The document should be applicable to Next Generation Core Services, Call Handling, Dispatch systems and other services. End-to-end performance and SLA parameters will also be addressed. This Work Group will address the specific deployment model of Cloud-Based services keeping intact the standards detailed in STA-010. Click here to join.

The Security for NG9-1-1 (NG-SEC) Work Group is forming to assess, analyze, and recommend areas that need to be addressed by NENA 75-001. The WG will focus on cyber security functions that have become a common thread between the established guidelines and standards. As the group focuses on new items to include, they will also work to establish a recommended guideline built to minimize the risk and limit the damage to 9-1-1. The WG will also work to ensure the standard is aligned with NENA-STA-010. Additionally, the WG may review specific mechanisms (TDoS / DDoS, Ransomware etc.) that may require a policy or guideline to guide how vendors are pursuing NG9-1-1 security. Click here to join.

The Telecommunication Denial of Service (TDoS) Work Group is developing an Information document focused on Telecommunication Denial of Service Attacks. Click here to join.

The E2 Interface Work Group will update the NENA Standard for the Implementation of the Wireless Emergency Service Protocol E2 Interface. This revised document should be the definitive document describing the E2 interface and should be sufficiently detailed and accurate to allow implementations without requiring access to closed standards. The workgroup will also consider clarifications or changes in support of delivering improved location to both legacy and transitional i3 environments.​ Click here to join.
