At NENA’s NG9-1-1 Standards & Best Practices Conference, you will gain an understanding of the world that is made possible by Next Generation 9-1-1 and help make it so. #NENASBP is a conference unlike any other. It is an interactive, informative, attendee-driven event where you not only learn about the standards that are spurring the development and implementation of NG9-1-1 technology and operations best practices, but also create the guidelines, resources, and documents that enable NG services, systems, and PSAPs to reach their full potential. Join us in Orlando from January 21-24 and be part of the solution! With your peers from across the 9-1-1 universe, you’ll discuss and work to address the most pressing NG-related issues, including: GIS and NG-data needs; location services and accuracy; resiliency and interoperability; governance and funding; telecommunicator SOPs; procurement and transition planning; security and resiliency; apps and the Internet of Things; multimedia messaging and accessibility; hiring and training; and the evolution of 9-1-1 center supervision and management. NENA applauds Wednesday's announcement by CTIA and nationwide wireless providers, including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon, that they are implementing new handset-based technologies that more accurately determine the location of mobile 9-1-1 callers. Device-based hybrid (DBH) location technology solutions use a combination of smartphone technologies, sensors, satellite GPS, and crowd-sourced Wi-Fi measurements to find 9-1-1 callers in a variety of environments where traditional location technologies are less reliable, including inside of buildings. "With nearly 200 million 9-1-1 callers per year relying on wireless devices, it’s essential that 9-1-1 professionals are able to quickly and accurately locate these mobile callers," said NENA’s CEO Brian Fontes. "We applaud the wireless industry, device manufacturers, and software engineers for coming together to enable these life-saving advances in location technology." Congratulations to the twenty-five 9-1-1 professionals who passed the summer 2018 ENP exam and are now certified Emergency Number Professionals! Well done! NENA Integrating Applications on Intelligent Workstations Information Document identifies, defines, discusses, and offers information to help PSAP managers make decisions that are necessary to integrate multiple applications on a single hardware platform at the Enhanced 9‑1‑1 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). NENA Standard Data Formats for E9‑1‑1 Data Exchange & GIS Mapping sets forth NENA standard formats for Automatic Location Identification (ALI) data exchange between Service Providers and Data Base Management System Providers, a Geographic Information System (GIS) data model, and formats for data exchange between the ALI Database and PSAP Controller equipment. This update adds additional legacy Classes of Service (CoS), standardized use of Service Descriptions in the Customer Name/Service field, and specifies the recommended CoS information and the recommended Service Descriptions. NENA Information Document for Location Validation Function Consistency provides recommendations that Location Validation Function (LVF) stakeholders, including operators, implementers, Geographic Information System (GIS) personnel and LVF clients can follow to help ensure that when LVFs from different vendors are provisioned with the same GIS data, they return consistent location validation responses for the same civic locations. The NENA Request for Proposal Considerations Information Document is intended for 9‑1‑1 Authorities that have made the decision to issue an RFP for the purpose of procuring all or part of a Next Generation 9‑1‑1 system. Specifically, this document recommends a structure and content to guide a project team that has been given the charter to develop an RFP. It anticipates that other work has been done and decisions have been made that support the development of the RFP. All comments are due by midnight Eastern on October 5, 2018. Contact the NENA Committee Resource Manager with any questions or concerns. Having adjudicated all comments, the subject document is now considered "stable." Per NENA IPR, Section 4.5 a "Stable Form Notice" is being issued and can be seen by clicking here.

The current 9-1-1 Suicide Prevention Standard published by NENA is due for revision. The NENA Suicide Prevention Working Group is, therefore, resuming soon. This will be an important revision process since several changes are needed to assure best possible care for those 9-1-1 callers at imminent risk of suicide. This standard will pursue inclusion of critical information about Crisis Text Line, terms for optimizing collaboration with National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and other accredited crisis call centers, and other changes. 9-1-1 professionals and mental health professionals are urged to join with other stakeholders as members of the working group to update this standard.
