Major League Soccer team honored 9-1-1 professionals at July 1 game

For the second year in a row, the San Jose Earthquakes showed their support for "the unsung heroes of public safety" by hosting and saluting a group of 9-1-1 professionals at Stanford Stadium on July 1 as the Quakes beat the L.A. Galaxy in the biggest California soccer match of the MLS season, the California Clasico.

The Quakes and their home stadium sponsor, Avaya, rolled out the red carpet by arranging:
  • Free tickets for more than 70 San Mateo and Santa Clara County 9-1-1 call takers, courtesy of Avaya and the Quakes;
  • A #ThankYou911 campaign tribute video on the big screen; and
  • Special greetings and outreach by Quakes players to the public safety community.

Staff and volunteers from NENA were on site and engaged with fans, distributed 9-1-1 public education giveaways, and provided information about the organization’s #ThankYou911 campaign.

Washington Briefing

FirstNet and AT&T are taking an important step to deliver the first nationwide high-speed data and voice network for America’s first responders.

Last month, the two provided U.S. states and territories with individual State Plans to enable the rapid deployment of this first-of-its-kind FirstNet network. The network buildout proposed in the State Plans will create thousands of new jobs nationwide and drive investments across the states and territories.

Delivery of the State Plans comes three months ahead of schedule. This marks a major milestone in the deployment of the FirstNet network. The network will modernize public safety communications and provide first responders with technologies to help them save lives and protect communities.

Volunteers Wanted
Emergency Services Marketing Corp., Inc (iamresponding.com)
NENA is looking for subject matter experts to help create the standards which support product development, PSAP Operations, and the implementation of NG9-1-1. With the goal of full NG9-1-1 roll-out by the end of 2020, this is your chance to literally help shape and write the future of 9-1-1.  Although we welcome volunteers from all 9-1-1 backgrounds and with knowledge or experience in any area, we currently have significant needs to help write draft text in the following areas:
  • ESInet Design personnel
  • ESInet Network Operations Center personnel
  • ESInet Security personnel
  • Multiple GIS System Integration / Error Correction Process personnel
  • SIP Configuration personnel that are familiar with the related IETF documents that support SIP
  • XML / SOAP and JSON / REST Implementation personnel
  • The impact of NG9-1-1 on human factors in 9-1-1 and PSAP Management

Contact the NENA Committee Resource Manager for information on how to get involved!

A new working group focused on the Internet of Things (IoT) and external applications (apps) is seeking volunteers to assist in creating a document describing the impact of IoT devices and emergency applications on NG9-1-1. This document will provide guidance to 9-1-1 professionals, application/device vendors, and data management/monitoring entities for NENA-endorsed methodology for NG9-1-1 interaction by IoT devices and emergency calling applications.

The working group may also determine mechanisms by which attachments (such as images or videos) are either conveyed with or made available within a 9-1-1 call and determine how data provided by applications or devices is made available to and accessed by call takers and responders. Additionally, the group may determine mechanisms (signaling etc.) by which applications and devices place automatic or manual 9-1-1 calls, including situations where the person initiating the call is remote, or gets bridged into a 9-1-1 call.
