Senators Nelson (D-FL) and Klobuchar (D-MN) have released draft legislation that would make the transition to NG9-1-1 a national priority on the heels of NENA's members meeting with Congressional leaders at 9-1-1 Goes to Washington, as well as The Hill's publication of an op-ed by NENA's CEO.

As the ANSI-accredited standards development organization that authored the consensus standards for NG9-1-1 architecture and security, NENA is pleased to see the draft legislation emphasize a standards-based approach to deploying this safety-critical technology.

"Getting there will require greater commitment and leadership from Congress, the Trump administration, and all levels of government. But getting there will bring our emergency infrastructure into the 21st century, strengthen our collective security, and provide better emergency service to more than 650,000 callers every day."

The NENA Standards for the Provisioning and Maintenance of GIS data to ECRF and LVFs define operational processes and procedures necessary to support the i3 Emergency Call Routing Function (ECRF) and Location Validation Function (LVF). Additionally, this document identifies ECRF/LVF performance and implementation considerations for 9 1 1 Authorities’ consideration.
The evolving and ongoing transition of wireless connectivity continues to increase the current number of non‑mobile wireless type 9‑1‑1 calling scenarios that may be more commonly presented as 9‑1‑1 emergency calls to Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). The NENA Non‑Mobile Wireless Service Interaction Information Document provides basic background information on increasingly more common non‑mobile 9‑1‑1 calling-type scenarios and point out near‑term considerations that may appropriately fit for these scenarios.

The purpose of this study is to examine the stresses and rewards of public service work in order to improve human resource management practices. Emotional labor is the effort to express or suppress feelings as work situations warrant. The University of Utah is doing this study because human resource management practices such as performance evaluations often fail to capture the substantial emotional labor burdens on public servants.
