The number of mobile phones is constantly increasing and with that increase we see a high number of pocket calls to 9-1-1. Studies have shown that 20% to 40% of all mobile calls to 9-1-1 are pocket calls. Impacts include:
  • Staff increase to handle these calls.
  • Decreased efficiency: Real emergency call response may be delayed due to pocket call handling.
  • Reduced morale: Staff can become frustrated if they have to handle a high number of pocket calls during their shift.
Interalia has a customer proven solution that can help you reduce the number of pocket calls to your 9-1-1 center.

Our solution is simple yet very efficient. Callers are prompted to say emergency or enter a DTMF key. Based on the voice level volume or DTMF key enter, the call is transferred to a call taker. If there's no voice signal or DTMF entry, then the call is discarded. The system is listening for a voice audio level, not a specific word and the sensitivity level is fully adjustable. This technology works very well in multilingual environments.
