NENA: Why did you choose a career in public safety?

Michael Ball: After working as an EMT and Paramedic, I transitioned to the IT side of 9-1-1 because of my background with telecommunications and networks. Public Safety is simple in a few aspects and complex in most others. It never seems to hand you the same thing every day, and I believe that’s what I love about my career.

NENA: What do you like best about your job?

MB: The people that I work with and the team I have make my job one of the best around. It doesn’t matter what the issues are or what the project entails, we seem to be very successful at what we do, and that is what makes the long hours worth it.
